White Cube
This is a site-specific installation at an abandoned elementary school’s outdoor storage space. As a part of a group exhibition organized in the building, I created walls and flooring for the storage space, using the furniture and objects found in the school. The building was emptied and abandoned as a consequence of gentrification and massive redevelopment. The whole space was blanketed in materials indelibly marked with the time and memories of the students and teachers. With the ironic title, the installation challenges the notion of a “neutral” white cube space and questions the role of art in local communities.
